What comes to mind when you hear “middle manager”? The word “middle” often implies that the person is headed somewhere else—ideally, to the top. But middle management can be a destination rather than a way station, say McKinsey’s Emily Field, Bryan Hancock, and Bill Schaninger, whose new book Power to the Middle: Why Managers Hold the Keys to the Future of Work comes out today.
