The talent landscape is volatile. How can companies meet employee needs?
On Point
Employer–employee relationships are shifting Brought to you by Liz Hilton Segel & Homayoun Hatami
Global leaders, Industry & Capabilities Practices• A shifting relationship. The relationship between employees and employers has fundamentally shifted, say McKinsey’s Bonnie Dowling, Bryan Hancock, and senior partner Bill Schaninger in the latest episode of McKinsey Talks Talent. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it a lot easier to shift jobs, says Hancock. Many employers no longer require new hires to live in the location where the job is being offered. Social capital is also lower, making it easier to move away. In the US alone, four million workers a month are quitting their jobs.

Zooming in on human development around the world
Harmony Internal - McKinsey
Plus, accelerating the energy transition, region by region To learn and lead through volatility, order Deliberate Calm
As much as we’d like to leave the turmoil of 2022 behind, much of it will endure into the new year. The world is still reeling from shocks in geopolitics, economics, and energy. But amid the challenges and uncertainty, hopeful prospects remain. In this month’s featured story, McKinsey Global Institute’s Chris Bradley, Marc Canal, Sven Smit, and Jonathan Woetzel created a high-resolution view of the world’s health and wealth by analyzing 178 countries and breaking them down into 40,000 microregions—a view that is 230 times more granular than a country perspective. The result: a story of incredible human progress and a more nuanced understanding of economic development that can help business and government leaders make better, more targeted decisions. Other highlights in this month’s issue include the following topics:
• how key stakeholders can accelerate action to promote a more orderly global energy transition
• AI adoption, impact, and spend—and how AI leaders are pulling ahead of competitors
• volatility in the world’s balance sheet
• how businesses can succeed in the face of constrained capital and talent

They revisited over 30 large-scale digital transformations across industries to see how talent and technology decisions affected the success of these programs, and lay out five core themes in a new article. The service mesh v/s APIM debate - What you should know for your API-first business
The service mesh v/s APIM debate: What you should know for your API first business
A debate for the ages. Let's kick off 2023 settling the Service Mesh v/s APIM debate once and for all!Hi MD Abul,
It's the start of an exciting new year! New resolutions to make, new technologies to explore and discuss. However, some old familiar questions still remain.
Let me paint a little scenario for you. So you’re a CTO, a lead architect or a senior engineer, and you’re looking into API management (APIM), which also led you to service mesh. Or you recently discovered service mesh, which led you to hear about APIM.
You’re (justifiably) confused about which to pick for your needs. It seems like there’s a lot of overlap, but also some major differences in terms of their purpose. You’re not alone!
In this edition of the great API debate, join Sedky Abou-Shamalah, Director Solution Architecture, Ahmet Soormally, Head of Research, and Budha, Product Evangelist at Tyk on Jan 10, 2023 07:00 PM GMT/ 02:00 PM Eastern as they unpack the similarities and differences between the two, answering some of your most burning questions such as:
- If I adopt a service mesh approach to applications, do I still need an API gateway?
- If I already have an API gateway, should I bother with service mesh?
- I can’t possibly use both, can I?
It's a debate for the ages. So, let's kick off 2023 settling the Service Mesh v/s APIM debate once and for all!
Wishing you and your team a very happy new year! Hope you have an incredibly successful year ahead!
See you at the webinar.

Harmony Internal - McKinsey
Did you know? New from McKinsey & Company
In Cambodia, the national average life expectancy was 69.8 years in 2019. But in some microregions along the coast and around the country’s largest cities, life expectancy is 74.6 years—while it dips as low as 61.4 years in rural areas (where 80 percent of the population lives). Find out some possible reasons why in Pixels make the picture: A guided tour through the granular world, Chapter 1 of Pixels of Progress from the McKinsey Global Institute.
